“YOU ARE MY SUN, MY MOON, AND ALL MY STARS.” – E. E. CUMMINGS
The last time you saw these two on the blog, was when they met me out in Valley of Fire for their epic engagement session. I was so happy to be able to adventure with them again for their wedding day last summer. They gathered their closest friends and family for a weekend together in the Sierra Nevadas at one of their favorite spots to adventure together. Everyone hiked up to the stunning overlook over Virginia lakes for their ceremony, performed by one of their closest friends.
Afterwards we did a little adventuring to shoot their portraits, and everyone made the trek back together (some stopping to take a dip) to spend the rest of the day celebrating together with an intimate dinner and party under the stars. I adore Katie’s floral accessories and her choice to change into a colorful reception dress. We took a little walk over to the other side of the lake that evening to capture portraits at sunset, in the very spot that they got engaged as well. My favorite part of the entire day was how it ended though. When I was getting ready to leave, I walked down to the lake, and looked up at the stars. I realized you could see the Milky Way stretching from one side of the night sky to the other, reflecting on the lake. Knowing how rare it is to get such a clear view of it, I ran back up to get them so they could all come enjoy the view as well while I captured images of it. Views of the stars are akin to fingerprints to me. It’s a romantic notion to me, that you never get the same view twice. So it is something I love to capture whenever possible. I love that they are able to have images of the night sky from the night that they married, in the place that is so special to them. Moments that can never be duplicated. You can view the full slideshow above to see the story of their day, and below a few of my favorite images.
