Wy has had a particularly rough week at school and with life in general this week, and although it ended with us finally finding some solutions that may work for him, I decided that we were overdue for a date night. We shipped his brother off to grandmas house, and after we finished reveling in how peaceful our house was with Rileyman off conquering other lands, we took a break from our projects (aka homework and design work) and decided to go for a walk.
We have THE BEST woods around our house. One of the reasons I loved this house when I found it was because it is surrounded on all sides by piney woods with the yummiest backlight that filters down through the trees for the two hours before sunset. We also have what we are convinced are the worlds biggest pine cones. Seriously like bigger than your head sized pine cones. They are everywhere this time of year and we Pinterested about 50 gillion craft projects for pine cones this week. Turkey pine cones, pine cone wreathes, pine cone potpourri, pine cone trees, pine cone bunting, pine cone pumpkins, pine cone ornaments…it’s never ending. So we went hunting perfect pine cones for our projects, while I listened to him describe all the hilarious things that happened at school this week, plan his halloween costume, and suggest that once we move to the property next door to his grandparents next month that maybe I should consider sending his brother to Grandmas house permanently (he considers it beneficial to all parties).
I also needed to test the new macro lens I picked up this week, so I tossed that on the camera for our little adventure. It is the Canon 100mm 2.8 macro. It doesn’t disappoint in the bokeh department and is sharp as a tack at about 3.2. It focuses brilliantly even with strong direct backlight. I was pleasantly surprised with the results from such an affordable lens.

Nothing is ever taken too seriously in our world. the dork gene runs strong in our family. Each pine cone received the football test….
…and the touchdown test.
Success! Pine cones galore!
