My favorite lens of all time is definitely my canon 24mm 1l4 L. Not only is it a workhorse lens, but it allows me to get right up in the action without warping things too badly. I LOVE it for lifestyle and travel work. I took the boys to downtown seattle recently and kept this lens on my camera the entire time. I love that it allows me to get great environmental shots even when sitting right next to them. For canon shooters if you don’t have, or haven’t tried this lens, DO IT. You won’t regret it! The colors and depth are just stunning. A few shooting tips:
– Keep your hood on. As with all wide angles you are more prone to getting lens flare and this one is no exception. With the hood on, you can control it much easier.
– Stay level. It will exaggerate any leading lines and angles so any tilt is also exaggerated.
– Get in there. Don’t be afraid of that in your face look and feel!
– Shoot from above and below. Lay down and take shots. You can really get a vast view of sky or things going on around you the lower you get. Same with shooting from above.
– Open it up. WIDE. like 1.4 WIDE. The wider the angle of lens the more you have to work with in your depth of field. Don’t be afraid to open it up all the way. I consistently shoot at 1.4 and 1.6 with this lens with no focus issues. GREAT bokeh when you do.
Riley has a fascination with all things transportation. He loves the excitement of airports, train stations, escalators, elevators, planes. Everything. The monorail was his 2nd favorite thing of the day, next to the ticket from the monorail that he held on to tightly for the rest of the day! Wyatt however did not see a use for noisy, dirty, public transportation as he has me to shuttle him around and commented multiple times on his lack of being impressed.
